Our Story

Tuscan Imports was born out of our own love for Italy. I developed a deep affection for Italy, and especially my wife’s home city, Firenze, during the eight years my family lived in the region of Tuscany. I learned to love the culture, the land, the food, the people, and their love for art and craftsmanship. Having mixed feelings about returning to the States in 1998, we attempted to carry a part of Italy with us. We applied stucco to our walls, built old brick arches, put a wood burning brick oven in our yard, and brought a large assortment of terracotta so that we could recreate Italy in our home and garden. We soon realized we were not the only ones who appreciate quality terracotta!

Friends and visitors immediately noticed the obvious difference between the hand-crafted items around our home and the terracotta typically found in retail outlets. We discovered that while quality Italian terracotta planters were abundant in Italy, they were difficult to find in the United States. As a result, I packed up my truck and began burning up the highway – Tuscan Imports was born.

We began as a family business and we continue to be a family business. We began with honest, personal service; and we continue with the same. We began building new friendships and partnerships; and we continue to build those on a daily basis. What a blessing it has been!

Our Commitment to Service

We have been selling handmade Italian terracotta from Impruneta and Siena since 1998, which means we have been around a long time and will continue to here for a long time. You can purchase with confidence from Tuscan Imports, knowing you are buying the absolute best quality available and you will always speak with a knowledgeable salesperson. Honesty and integrity are the foundation on which we have built our business.

We have an advantage of speaking Italian, therefore we work and communicate directly with top workshops in Impruneta. Most companies work through buying agencies that have contracts with workshops whose production is mediocre at best. These agencies not only push these workshops, but the added cost of a middleman drives up the price of these subpar pieces.

We know the reality that some workshops cut corners and we therefore choose to not work with them. Some fire their items at lower temperatures and some fire for shorter times in order to cut expenses. The ‘anima’, or what is called the ‘soul’ of the terracotta, is affected by these short cuts. While it cannot be seen by the eye because it is internal, it certainly affects the quality and durability of the item produced.

We carry the largest inventory of terracotta from Impruneta available in the US. In fact, we have more inventory on hand than most Italian workshops! Because of our large inventory and our volume of business, we are able to offer quick turnaround times and competitive pricing.

The truth is some workshops use illegal help from third world countries, which we believe to be an unethical practice. We choose not to work with these companies even though their products can be less expensive. Equally important, these workers are not true artisans and it is reflected in the quality of terracotta that is produced.

Because of our experience and knowledge, we are familiar with all the workshops in Impruneta and Siena and we only use those that produce the best quality available so that you can be sure when you purchase from Tuscan Imports that you are receiving the best terracotta that can be found. In addition, since we have been in business since 1998, we have years of experience shipping throughout the U.S. and other parts of the world. Therefore, one can rest assured that items will arrive safely and in perfect condition. We guarantee it!
