Tuscan Imports is a leading provider of authentic,
We speak the language, we understand the culture,
and above all we recognize the reality that only a handful of
workshops in Impruneta and Siena produce quality terracotta pots.
Did you know that terracotta pots have a rich history dating back to the time of the Etruscans and Romans. During the Renaissance, it was the Italians living in the region of Tuscany that refined the art of making terracotta. In fact, terracotta from the town of Impruneta has been used by many notable Italians. The architect, Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1444/46) utilized terracotta reliefs in his work. As did sculptors such as Donatello (1386) and Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378-1455). And this classic art form is still as relevant and beautiful today.
If you visit the region of Tuscany today, you will see trees planted in centuries-old, terracotta pots throughout each town. Because of the rich mineral content of the Impruneta clay and the skilled hand of the master craftsmen who produced these elegant vases, these antiques have lasted for generations. This time honored tradition of hand-crafting terracotta pottery has been passed down through the years. In fact, we only supply our terracotta from the handful of workshops who continue to produce terracotta pots in the old world tradition.
